Rachel Feldman
Born in Chicago to political activist parents, grew up in CA—Santa Barbara—in civil rights and anti-war protest era, folk music and community organizing in high school and college, philosophy of science at University of California Santa Cruz and Stanford, back to school after running a health system in Twin Cities at Harvard in the 80s, through a 40+ year career in health policy, negotiations, and administration in CA, MN, MD, and VA, retiring to Santa Fe in 2016. Last 7 years, community organizing and legislation in NM, now with focus on reforming law enforcement and preserving democracy (including the HOA— harder than legislating!).
Never married, with one daughter, a DOJ lawyer working in immigration courts in MD, a corgi named Delilah, and 2 cats named Schmoozie and Challah (yep, like the sabbath bread, which he loves to eat). Lots of hobbies including fiber arts, sculpture, stained glass, classical/jazz flute, gardening, voracious reading, talking to strangers, and writing.
Love time alone, major investments in friendships, need to learn something every day, make a difference, take on difficult challenges, practice Jewish ethics—Tikun Olam—repairing the world and find humor somewhere in the day-to-day messiness. Sometimes if I can’t find it, I have to create it! At 17 in a philosophy class, I tripped over the question I have tried to answer every day since— “When is information good enough to support action?” We are the accumulation of the days we live and the lives we touch. Each day should be precious and each act/word should ripple through time to empower others to do good.
