Monica Gilboa

Mine is a long and complicated story. I was born to a single mother in 1949 Paris. When I was one, we returned to the newly formed state of Israel, and joined a left-leaning kibbutz. At age 7 we left the kibbutz and moved to a lovely village near Tel-Aviv. The center of my social life was an ideological youth movement so political-social culture is in my blood. I was at the end of my senior year of high school when the Six Day War happened, and shortly thereafter I went into mandatory army service I attended Hebrew UniversityinJerusalem, majoring in psychology. I came to the US in 1976 with an Egyptian journalist (long story!) and spent 10 years with her in Cambridge, Massachusetts. There I went to nursing school and worked as a nurse in a large hospital. I later got my doctorate in clinical psychology and specialized in neuropsychology. My career was mostly in rehabilitation settings. I moved to Albuquerque with my late partner in 2002. We lived in the wonderful North Valley. I worked with head injury, stroke, and other neurological patients at the Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital. My life projection again drastically and unexpectedly shifted when Mary passed away in 2011. Fortunately, I was able to rebuild my life some years later with Dottie. We moved to our beautiful, newly built home in Santa Fe in 2018. We recently lost two of our three beloved dogs, but we still have our wagging Shoko. I retired three years ago. I am aware every day what a privilege it Is to be able to have time, feel safe and comfortable, and do whatever you want. I am interested in…practically everything!
