Ellen Premak

I was born on a South Dakota horse ranch. I hold a BA in Fine Arts from the University of Oklahoma and pursued studies in Native American arts and Art Education. I worked at the Denver Art Museum (10 years) in an educational/audience development capacity, brokered real estate and was an Acquisition Specialist analyzing national cable systems for acquisition and working with on-line degree programs through a 1990’s early cable TV network. Other jobs have included selling real estate, working in a soda fountain and doing merchandise window display at department stores as a kid. I retired in 2015 as Executive Director of the Mizel Museum, Denver, where I worked for 23 years. My leadership, vision and creativity brought the museum from a small display-based space to a nationally recognized multicultural museum of Jewish art, with multifaceted educational programs. My background led me to work with the N.Y. World Trade Center 9/11 steel wreckage program through Denver Parks and Recreation, creating a park memorial, the US Holocaust Museum in DC and international museum collaborations. I moved to Santa Fe 7 years ago and now host Katie and Maverick, four rescue parrots and garden, raise vegetables/chickens/bees. Since I have been in Santa Fe, I have been on the boards of the New Mexico New Deal Preservation Association, Santa Fe Master Gardeners Association, Friends of Folk Art, Glass Alliance New Mexico, New Mexico Women in the Arts, and Clark Hulings Foundation. My life circles around art, aviation and animals. I am a maker in every way from creating glass works, designing needlepoint, and bronze casting. I achieved getting my pilot’s license and follow aviation trends.
