Dottie Indyke

I grew up in Queens, New York and studied theater at American University in Washington, D.C., where I lived for 21 years. In 1990, I rode my bicycle from Santa Fe through Taos to Red River and back and moved here a year later. My first job in NM was as a bingo caller at Tesuque Pueblo. After the thrill subsided, I established my own communications/planning consultancy with dozens of local organizations and wrote for a number of arts and culture publications, including Pasatiempo, ARTnews, and Albuquerque Journal North. For 12 years I was the executive director of Creativity for Peace, which trains the next generation of female leaders and peacemakers in Israel and Palestine, the work of my heart. I retired in 2019. In D.C., I co-founded Children’s Radio Theater, a radio drama program broadcast on 150 NPR stations across the country that was the recipient of a Peabody Award. The work was featured on Late Night with David Letterman, the Today show, and in People magazine. I was vice president of programming and marketing for the National Cable Television Association, where I was responsible for the cable television equivalent of the Emmy Awards. I met Monica Gilboa on match.com in 2014 without realizing we already knew each other through Monica’s volunteer/professional work with Creativity for Peace. We have been happily together ever since – caring for our canines, cooking, gardening, puzzling, walking, reading, traveling and talking politics. For SOS, I manage the website, head the Free Flow committee and serve as Treasurer. Inspired by my sister SOSer, Jana Theis, I volunteer with the Friends of the Santa Fe Public Library.
