Beth C. Barak

Beth’s professional dabblings are in international development/education, non-profit management and corporate citizenship. The Thailand Business Coalition on AIDS in Bangkok is her favorite job. She also cherishes her time as the only non-Thai at a rural primary school north of Bangkok. A dream came true when she twice flew to Africa in the early ‘90s, to represent Peace Corps (PC) HQs in places like Eritrea, Congo and Uganda. She treasures the kindness of strangers met while living and working overseas. Upon returning from Thailand, Beth co-founded the Center for Corporate Citizenship at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in D.C., then returned to New York for a second stint at the Institute of International Education. Following her Halloween 2010 nuptials, Beth relocated to Florida, where she loved the sun and sea, but never felt home - though she enjoyed her university job in research communications. Beth quit her university job a few years ago to partner with her husband in his financial services compliance consultancy. She focuses on their other small business, the best part of which is collaborating with her husband to support lawyers in the fight against financial fraud. Beth is thrilled that her husband’s dream to relocate to NM turned out well for her, as she has been enjoying life in Lamy since October 2021. A younger Beth took political stands via protests and organizing for causes like Israel and women’s reproductive rights. She subsequently volunteered for Gore-Lieberman and Manhattan Comptroller. She also phone banked at the DNC, and for Democratic presidential campaigns. She has a B.A., International Relations from The American University and an M.A., Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh. She counts among her favorite experiences: a semester abroad at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and interning at that city’s Government Press Office.
