Barbara Bloomberg

I was born in Newark, N.J. but raised in Roosevelt, N.J. a very small idyllic and ideologically socialistic (yes!) which attracted artists, i.e. Ben Shahn, and writers, sculptors, etc. Established as part of the New Deal originally called the Jersey Homesteads under Franklin D. Roosevelt. Moved to Trenton for high school and then to Philadelphia to attend Temple University. I worked for a law firm part time. I met my husband, Ron, and got married. We’ve been married for 56 years. Because Ron is a writer, we eventually moved to Los Angeles for his work on situation comedies. I was a full time mom with 3 kids. When my oldest was 16, he was tragically killed by a drunk driver. I was grief stricken and catapulted into starting a chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving in L.A. I joined other grieving parents across the country. Our greatest achievement was raising the drinking age from 18 to 21 and raising the consciousness of the country about drinking and driving. After 8 rough years, I eventually left MADD and joined the California Friday Night Live Partnership, a statewide prevention alcohol and drug prevention program for teens. Ron and I both retired and moved to Santa Fe in 2004 and live in Aldea. Our daughter and her family live in Albuquerque where we were thrilled to see my granddaughter (23) and my grandson (19) graduate from college and high school. I went back to school and finished my degree in fine arts at the University of New Mexico in 2014. I am happily ensconced in glass sculpting now at SFCC. Indivisible SOS has given me another opportunity to work on making change in our state and country. I am so proud to be involved with so many accomplished and wonderful women who are like~minded!
